Senior Housing vs. Senior Care – what’s the difference?

Far too many seniors who need “senior care end up in “senior housing,” only to have their care bill run up through the roof, and after after followed by being asked to move to a “more appropriate care setting” due to needing more “care“.

Don’t be one of them! There is a BIG difference between the senior housing and senior care. Both terms are fairly broad and used interchangably, but they are different.

Senior HOUSING (i.e. assisted living facilities) provide housing for seniors “by design” and many offer various degrees of care “by necessity.” Although most of these facilities would rather not do so, they provide some level of care in order to retain residents who need that care – all too often at the expense of safety according to a recent Frontline expose.

Most assisted living facilities weren’t designed or conceived to provide care, but rather to offer a supportive environment for more able seniors, support such as meals, housekeeping, and ample social activities.

On the other hand senior “care” (i.e. adult family homes and boarding homes) are designed, credentialed, and licensed to provide care for seniors, and the “housing” part comes along with it.
